A typical peaked lumber
A typical peaked lumber to fit size 92—97cm (36—38in) is knitted as follows:
Ribbing: cast on 256 stitches plus 6-8 for the front opening, and rib for (3in), in shade (1) 1 & 1 rib, or 12 rows in corrugated rib. Continue in shade (1) in stocking stitch and increase in the first row to 292 stitches, ie, 16 stars of 18 stitches each plus 4 for the edge, plus 6—8 for the steek.
The peaks are set in the third row by knitting 1 shade (2) every 6 stitches, placing the first coloured stitch immediately after the opening. The pattern continues as shown in the chart (opposite) with four vertical repetitions of the large star, three repetitions of the small star, and a small star centred over the shoulder.
